About the Center for Taiji and Qigong Studies

Our Mission

Promoting optimal wellbeing by integrating ancient Chinese healing arts and scientific research, education and practice.

Since 1998 the Center for Taiji and Qigong Studies (CTQS) has conducted research, including randomized controlled trials, on the effects of Tai Chi and Qigong in pain, balance, strength, immune function, cognition, sleep, and anxiety.

Our most recent trial, with 350 adults living with chronic low back pain, was conducted in collaboration with the Center for Comprehensive Spine Care at Weill Cornell Medicine and New York Medical College. The results were published in the North American Spine Society Journal in 2024, and presented in 2026 at the Science of Tai Chi and Qigong conference at Harvard Medical School. Our next study opens for recruitment on October 1, 2026.
