About Grandmaster Yang

Grandmaster Yang Yang, PhD, is a renowned Tai Chi (Taiji) and Qigong master, educator, and researcher, dedicated to alleviating chronic pain by integrating ancient Chinese healing practices with modern science. He is the founder and director of the Center for Taiji and Qigong Studies (CTQS) in New York City, where he has studied Tai Chi and Qigong since 1998. His research, including randomized controlled trials, focuses on chronic back pain, balance, sleep, immune function, strength, mood, stress, and overall well-being.

His recent groundbreaking study, A Tai Chi and Qigong Mind-Body Program for Low Back Pain: A Virtually Delivered Randomized Control Trial, published in the North American Spine Society Journal (NASSJ), introduced the first online, evidence-based Tai Chi and Qigong program for back pain, integrating stillness and movement.

Trained by top grandmasters in China, he became a martial arts champion before earning his PhD in kinesiology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is the author of Taijiquan: The Art of Nurturing, The Science of Power, widely recognized by practitioners and researchers alike.

His innovative teaching methods have been introduced at the National Institutes of Health and adopted by leading institutions such as Mayo Clinic, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and Weill Cornell Medicine, helping both patients and employees manage chronic pain and stress, improve physical function, and enhance well-being.
